Antarctica
The Antarctica Circle stretches across the southern part of the globe and is the fifth-largest continent. As well as being the driest, windiest, coldest, and highest place on earth, it is also the highest and iciest. The fact that this frozen, windswept continent has no permanent residents doesn’t come as a surprise. It is not a popular place to live, but you will find up to 5000 scientists and researchers living here, and up to 45000 tourists visiting expedition cruise ships from Antarctica each year. The only animal most people want to meet and see on an adventure to Antarctica and the Subantarctic islands is the penguin.
